WYCOMBE Wanderers player-manager Gareth Ainsworth believes the club are on the verge of something big.

The Chairboys have eased away from the League Two drop zone with a four-match unbeaten run, which has included wins over Rotherham and Burton in recent weeks.

And the 39-year-old believes that the atmosphere inside the dressing room is playing a pivotal role in the recent success at Adams Park.

"I can feel the start of something," he said. "The success of teams I've been in was great, promotion and higher leagues. That's way off but I can see the start of something. More importantly, it's not just seeing it, I can feel the buzz.

"When we are training it's serious but they are really good friends off the pitch and I think that helps.

"As a group, and me especially as the manager, I'm confident we can beat anybody in this division and I really mean that.

"The confidence has built to a level now where we're consistently thinking, 'Who's next? Let's go and take these on'."

Plymouth Argyle look all set to appoint former Colchester United manager John Ward as their new director of football.

The 61-year-old, who was fired from Layer Road back in September, is favourite to take over the role after the Pilgrims confirmed they had chosen a candidate following a round of interviews.

"From a high-quality field, we have identified the person who best fills the necessary criteria that will take the club forward," a club statement said.

Aldershot Town winger Adam Mekki admits he is 'disappointed' in his lack of goals for the club, despite netting in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Oxford United.

The 20-year-old came off the bench to equalise, but later admitted: "It would be nice to score more often. It's one part of my game I'm disappointed in.

"I've played over 50 games now and only scored two goals. It's something I'll be looking to work on."
