Body found on beach after East Devon coastguards join in search

East Devon coastguards and lifeboat crews joined in the search for a missing 59-year-old man whose body was subsequently found near Lyme Regis this afternoon.

Portland Coastguard tasked Sidmouth Lifeboat, an Exmouth RNLI crew and Exmouth Coastguards to assist with the search operation at around 1pm.

A coastguard helicopter and a Lyme Regis RNLI crew were also launched after the discovery of a boat at West Bay.

Sidmouth Lifeboat conducted a search of the coast between Axmouth at Seaton and Ladram Bay.

The body of the missing man was discovered at West Bay at around 2pm by coastguards.

“Our thoughts are with his friends and family,” added a lifeboat spokesman.
