Businesses praised at training awards

South West Water were named winner of winners at an awards ceremony which aims to recognise the firms that achieve success through training their workforce.

The Exeter-based company picked up the top award as well as winning the Outstanding Commitment to Training (Large Company) award at the 2013 Excellence in Business Training Awards, which were held in Newquay on Friday.

More than 150 local business people attended the awards, which were being held for the sixth time and are sponsored by FalFish, Cornwall and Devon Media and Pirate FM.

The event was organised by Cornwall College Business.

Raoul Humphreys, deputy CEO of Cornwall College, said: "The entries to this year's awards have all been exceptional and I know the judges had a very difficult time in selecting just one winner in each category. It is so inspiring to see the tremendous successes that businesses in the South West have seen as a result of training and developing their staff and is always a pleasure to take the opportunity to celebrate with those businesses at the awards. Congratulations to the shortlisted and winning individuals and businesses."

Outstanding Commitment to Training, sponsored by Cormac Solutions Ltd, won by South West Water

Outstanding Commitment to Training SME, sponsored by Cornwall Care, won by Cornwall Solar Panels

Outstanding Commitment to Apprenticeships, sponsored by Unlocking Potential, won by Ocean Housing Group

Commitment to Graduate Development, sponsored by Deloitte, won by Eight Wire

Excellence in Environmental Training, sponsored by T J International, won by Absolute Recycling Company Ltd

Achievement of Significant Impact, sponsored by Cornwall Development Company, won by Mining Searches UK

Training Programme of the Year, sponsored by Pirate FM, won by Reflex Marine Ltd

Individual Achievement, sponsored by Midas, won by Kayleigh Radcliffe, of Klimek Jewellers

Apprentice of the Year, sponsored by Falfish, won by Henry Osborne, of The Greenbank Hotel

South West Water was commended for its new training programme that provides employees with an understanding of its business and strategy, as well as learning and development initiatives to enhance their personal and career development.

It also runs a large apprenticeship programme in partnership with Cornwall College.
