Christmas cards raise funds for fishing charity

A WESTCOUNTRY clothing firm has raised £2,200 for maritime charity, the Fishermen's Mission.

Cornish leisure wear brand, Seasalt, which has a shop in Gandy Street as well as a concession in John Lewis, raised the funds as part of its Christmas charity campaign.

Because of its strong coastal links, managers were keen to help raise funds and awareness for the charity which supports fishermen and their families.

The charity is supporting the family of Exmouth trawlerman Geoff Ingram who tragically died when his boat capsized in September.

More than 300 people got their creative thinking caps on to design coastal-themed Christmas cards which were sold throughout Seasalt's stores, including Exeter, with proceeds going to the charity.

Five designs were chosen by Gina Moore, regional fundraising manager for the Fishermen's Mission, Jane Chetwynd from University College Falmouth, and Seasalt designer Rebecca Rudman.

Gina, said: "We were thrilled with the sales of Christmas cards produced by them and sold in their stores and online in aid of the mission.

"An amazing £2,229.50 was raised for our welfare and caring work among our fishing communities here in Cornwall."
