The case of a teacher accused of raping a 16-year-old girl has been adjourned for two weeks.
Music teacher Paul Smith, aged 39, was due to be arraigned at Exeter Crown Court but no plea was taken and two new counts were added to the indictment.
Smith, of Bourne Avenue, Southgate, London, is accused of rape and sexual activity with a person under 18 while in abuse of a position of trust.
All the allegations relate to a time when he was working at a secondary school in North Devon.
Judge Francis Gilbert, QC, adjourned the case for two weeks to allow further discussions between prosecution and defence.
The case remains in the list at Exeter Crown Court with a trial date in April next year.
