WESTERLY Exeter has been announced as one of the 46 sales agents that will supply and support BMW i – the company's revolutionary new sub-brand featuring electric drive systems and premium mobility services.

Specialist technical capabilities will allow Westerly Exeter to carry out repairs to the vehicles' high-voltage batteries. Tim Downer, dealer principal, said: "We are delighted to have been appointed as a BMW i Agent.

"BMW i is not just a new addition to the BMW brand it is also a significant milestone for the automotive industry. BMW is the first premium manufacturer to offer purpose-built electric vehicles and support solutions to the UK Market."

Initially, two BMW i cars have been confirmed for production, the fully-electric BMW i3 megacity vehicle and the plug-in hybrid BMW i8 sports car.

With more than 6,000 people having already requested further information on the i brand, Westerly Exeter is taking deposits on both models.

The BMW i3 is BMW's first fully-electric production car and is due to go on sale in the UK in late 2013. Like the i8, the BMW i3 features an all-aluminium chassis combined with a passenger cell made entirely from lightweight carbon fibre reinforced plastic.

As well as the vehicles themselves, BMW i will encompass a range of services for mobility aimed at optimising the use of parking spaces, recharging infrastructure, 'smart' navigation systems, intermodal route planning and access to other BMW vehicles on an 'on-demand' basis.

BMW is the first premium vehicle manufacturer to offer such a comprehensive ownership package surrounding electric mobility.

"With BMW i, we are offering game-changing technology that will revolutionise the way we move through a completely new driving and ownership experience," added Tim Downer. The BMW Concept i3 will be displayed at some high-profile locations across the UK prior to arriving at Westerly Exeter in late 2013. Potential customers can now register their interest with Westerly Exeter on 01392 822555 or online at www.bmw-i.co.uk
