There is only four weeks to go until the Age UK Exeter 10k Run.

The event, sponsored by a number of local businesses including estate agent Wilkinson Grant, is taking place on Sunday March 23 and has so far attracted more than 600 runners.

With just three weeks to go until race entries close organisers are urging people to sign up before the race registration deadline of March 16.

Race organiser Jacqui Cornish said: "As there will be no entries on the day we would urge people to sign up now to avoid disappointment."

The race starts at 9.30am in Princesshay and takes runners through Southernhay, down Western Way and on to the Exeter Quayside. There is then a flat stretch along the river and canal finishing at the Piazza Terracina on the Quay.

The race would suit regular and experienced runners as well as beginners and fun runners due to the relatively flat terrain. Runners can sign up at www.fullonsport.co.uk/ageukexeter

Age UK Exeter is also calling for local people to help on the day with around 100 volunteers needed to make the event a success. Helpers are needed to marshal the course and help at the water stations. Volunteer Co-ordinator Dawn Wakefield said: "This is a perfect opportunity for people to make a real difference by giving up just a few hours. This is a big event for us and we need as many people as possible to help."

The run is being organised to raise much needed funds for Age UK Exeter’s work with isolated and vulnerable older people in the city. Those wishing to help are asked to contact Jacqui Cornish on 01392 202092
