An Exeter University student spent £170 on a 16-hour train journey to Scotland and back as part of a dare/forfeit set by teammates.

Ben Sully lost the annual Edinburgh Fives social game and as a forfeit caught the train to Edinburgh station where he boarded a train straight back to Exeter.

The Exeter hockey goalkeeper left Exeter St David’s at 8.23am on Thursday morning and arrived in the Scottish capital at 4.05pm.

The ticket cost the student £170 but was rewarded with a bottle of wine, chocolates and a bunch of flowers from Edinburgh Uni hockey players who were waiting for him at the station.
