As Halloween edges it's way closer and closer, it's about time we all started making plans but before the mere idea sends you into a frenzy, just sit back and relax. Fright night in Exeter has already been taken care of with another annual Zombie Walk, followed by the illustrious Zombie Ball.
After the immense success that this event has seen over the past three years, it seemed only right to pursue a fourth year of Zombie chomping fun, only this time the entertainment boasts some of the most impressive names to date.
The walk will begin at the upper Bus Station Car Park at 4pm and will be slowly guided around the city centre by the Pied Piper of the dead, Jon Lee. There will be plenty of opportunities for photo's and filming along the way, not to mention an outdoor stage in the Princesshay shopping centre, with a performance from Demons Of Old Metal.
All ages are welcome so mums and dads, that means you and your kids need to dress to impress and dare to scare. There will be prizes for the best dressed zombies. This will only take about an hour and will finish at about 5pm at the Phoenix Arts Centre, just in time for the opening of the doors to the Zombie Ball!
Scottish metallers, Bleed From Within will be headlining the evening's events. The boys have been smashing stages all over the world this summer with the likes of Megadeth and Carcass and have just released their new album "Uprising" which has already been a global success after only a handful of months. Closely following in their foot stomping steps, will be some of our very own homegrown rockers, including the up and coming Backhand Saloon, who have just been nominated for a South West Music award. Condemned, Born Of The Jackal, Pillars, Elithia, Purging The Venom and Codex Alimentarius are all featured to play throughout the night, bringing non stop carnage right up until 1am.
There will also be a Steampunk room that has been set up to provide even more entertainment in the form of Magicians, Ventriloquism, DJ's and bands such as The Mysterious Freak Show and the Skull Kids. Jon Massey will also be gracing the scene with his crazy music box blaring out classic punk tunes.
The event is put together by Exeter's very own multi-award winning Rock DJ Mike James, who's rock show goes out on Phonic FM Fridays from 10pm. All profits from this event goes towards helping Exeter's community radio station Phonic FM stay on the air.
Mike James commented "This function is simply something that gets everybody in the community involved and is another great opportunity to support the local music scene. Every year we have new bands pop up and the talent just gets better and better. It's important that we back them every step of the way. The Zombie side of things is just great fun and fits perfectly with Halloween."
