Exeter together - let's get those Energy bills tumbling

EXETER Together has officially launched – and people are invited to see whether they could access savings on their energy bills thanks to the collective switching initiative brought to the area by Exeter City Council.

The campaign, which runs between now and March 17, will be hitting the road from Friday, February 22, on a seven-day, city-wide tour with its promotional bus nicknamed Bill, in a bid to take the innovative collective energy buying scheme to the people of Exeter.

Exeter Together hopes to help people save at least £100 off their heating bills by joining together to switch utility providers.

Although it's called Exeter Together it is in fact available for anyone in the region to join.

Councillor Rachel Sutton, lead councillor for sustainable development and transport, said: "We are really excited to have the scheme in Exeter because we are helping to make the benefits of collective buying power a reality.

"This is an enormous opportunity to get people switching to a better rate and we can't wait to tell people all about it during our tour of the city.

"Although the campaign is called Exeter Together, it is worth pointing out that anyone can actually join it. Whether you're from Honiton, Crediton or Barnstaple… in fact anywhere in the UK. The more the merrier."

The promotional bus will be visiting as many areas of the city as possible to raise awareness and drum up interest in the scheme.

The Exeter Together team will be on board to offer help and advice and residents can bring their energy bills along and ask questions.

As well as the tour bus, further help is at hand because older people requiring assistance with registration can contact Age UK Exeter on 01392 202092 to make an appointment to see an adviser at the charity's centre in Cowick Street.

Alternatively, people can also visit the Citizen Advice Bureau in King William Street, Exeter, each weekday afternoon (except Wednesday) between 1pm and 3pm where help will be on offer for people who might need assistance using the Exeter Together website. People are advised to bring their latest fuel bill so that staff can help them make the comparison and the CAB will also be helping clients who book advice appointments to understand the scheme and the financial benefits it may bring for them.

Exeter Together hopes to make tens of thousands of pounds in collective savings on utility bills – and it should only take around five minutes for people to find out whether they would be better off on the Exeter Together scheme, or staying with their current provider.

"People are under no obligation to switch and it is clearly explained whether they are better off staying with their current provider, or whether they will benefit from a switching to the Exeter Together scheme," said Cllr Sutton.

"People will instantly receive a collectively purchased energy offer.

"I entered my details, which was actually only inputting the name of my utility provider, current tariff and average monthly spend, and was amazed at what I stood to save, even though I keep an eye on the market and thought I was already on a good rate."
