A man who was arrested after police firearms officers sealed off part of Barnstaple has been banned from entering the town after appearing at Exeter Crown Court.
Craig Lethaby, aged 32, is accused of using a piece of metal piping as an imitation shotgun with the intention of threatening violence after the incident in Castle Street and the Strand in December.
The homeless man, who is now living in Exeter, was arrested in the early hours of December 2 last year after a three hour stand off.
Police firearms and dog units were called to the centre of the town and officers sealed off an area near The Strand to contain the incident.
Officers recovered a piece of metal piping wrapped in a bag at the end of the incident.
Lethaby, whose most recent addresses have been at Bellmeadow Court, Barnstaple, and Burnthouse Lane, Exeter, did not enter a plea during a short preliminary hearing at Exeter.
Judge Francis Gilbert, QC, adjourned the case to allow prosecution and defence to discuss the charges and bailed Lethaby on condition he does not return to Barnstaple or contact witnesses.
