A former Exeter City player has been the target of what is being described as the ‘First Twitter transfer.’
Trinidad and Tobago and ex-Grecian Jake Thomson signed for Lincoln City on a month-long loan yesterday from Newport County after heated discussions from both clubs on Twitter.
Newport announced Thomson's departure on a month's loan via their official Twitter account, posting:
"We can confirm that Jake Thomson has joined Lincoln City on a month's loan."
However Lincoln's official Twitter account posted a public reply telling them to get the paperwork signed:
"@NewportCounty Can you therefore get the paperwork signed and sent to us so the move can be completed???"
Later replying to another Twitter user who had told them to ‘pick up the phone’ to complete negotiations, writing:
'Surely the unprofessional approach is announcing a loan move that hasn't even happened yet???'
23-year-old Thomson did complete his move later in the day and is eligible to make his Lincoln debut at Ebbsfleet United on Saturday.
Thomson signed for City in 2011 making 16 appearances for the club.
The ex-Southampton trainee spent a month on loan at Whaddon Road from the Grecians towards the end of the season, making five appearances and scoring once for the npower League Two outfit.
The ‘Twitter Transfer’ has received national coverage with many commenting on the clubs lack of professionalism in the signing.
