A NATIONAL body set up to receive fraud complaints for the police has confirmed it has received allegations relating to an Exeter vehicle hire firm.
Action Fraud says it has passed details about the case, which is understood to relate to SHB Hire Ltd, to the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau.
The company has branches throughout the UK and has a fleet of 4x4 vehicles at its Marsh Barton branch in Exeter. It has contracts with organisations including South West Highways, Boots and JCB.
Auditors are understood to have been called in to the Exeter branch a number of weeks ago and are believed to have spent a week looking at paperwork.
Following their investigations, a file is understood to have been prepared for the police and fraud officers.
A spokesman for Action Fraud, which receives all fraud complaints for the police, said: "We can confirm we have received an allegation relating to the case and its details had been passed on to the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau."
Paul Street, of SHB Hire Ltd, said: "While we are unable to comment on any allegations or rumours concerning our Exeter branch, we can assure customers that SHB continues to provide a quality product and service throughout the UK."
