Westpoint, Exeter

As a line of fire streaks across the ice, the stadium reverberates to the full-throttle of twin motorbike engines. An unmistakeable smell permeates the air and excitement builds. Speed of Machines is one of the highlights of this year's spectacular Holiday on Ice, Speed, as Forrest Ryan McKinnon accelerates his stunt bike off a ramp, leaping high over the ice and across the fire. Creative director Bart Doerfler has produced a family show that pulses with power and energy.

With linking video narration and fiery effects that include flaming torches and skates, ten fast-moving scenes are played out on and around the ice. At every opportunity dancers encourage and involve audiences. With giant beach-balls and a flying surf-board, Speed of Nature brings Hawaiian beach sunshine to the show. Within the show's immensely talented ensemble, charismatic duo Daria Perminova and Evgenii Belyanin stand out, their bodies in perfect harmony as they glide across the ice in powerful and graceful routines. Speed of Time fascinates as dancers skate, rotating time to the incessant ticking of a giant clock. Speed of Thrill, a vibrant circus carnival, is led by the ringmaster as with split-second timing he leaps through the Death Claw, while high above the ice aerialist acrobats Alyssa and David Gray spin in silver hoops.
