The tension is building for Teignmouth’s teenage singing sensation Luke Friend who tonight will battle it out in the final of the X Factor.

The 17-year-old today appealed to his legion of followers to remember to vote for him, on the popular ITV talent contest, the winning of which is certain to propel him on the road the fame and fortune.

He said: “Today is life changing, I need to perform the best I ever have tonight I'm so nearly there please vote to keep me in tomorrow and win this!”

The talented singer and songwriter, who earlier this week made a triumphant homecoming to South Devon, will line up against Sam Bailey and Nicholas McDonald in a tense final starting at 7.30pm

Earlier today, it was suggested that Luke’s massive social media support - just under 300,000 twitter followers and 110,000 Facebook followers - could tip the balance in his favour.

According to the Daily Mirror, statistics show that the internet has already picked its winners in the form of Sam Bailey and Luke Friend.

The paper said Google search results suggest that prison officer Sam Bailey is the most popular finalist.

On average, in the last 30 days, more people have searched for her name than either of her younger, male finalists, including the different variations of Nicholas’ name.

Luke Friend however has the strongest social media following.

Currently standing at 580,117 Luke Friend's combined Twitter, Instagram and Facebook army is quite large and is leaps ahead of favourite Sam Bailey's.

Sam's total is 303,309 whereas Nicholas McDonald's stands at a healthy 533,901.

Luke, a Coombeshead Academy pupil, was not even a teenager when he embarked on his singing career.

He has since acquired a loyal following in South Devon after numerous appearances at local music festivals and talent shows.
