Hill extends his lead

DUNCAN Hill cemented his position at the top of the league with another 10 point section win in round 10.

Fishing on peg 24 on the groines of the tidal River Exe, his catch of 6lb 9oz included a bonus mullet and a 1.5lb chub.

In a close run contest between three pegs in the first field, Dave Walton came out on top from peg eight. His catch of 16lb 10oz came mostly on the waggler and was enough to win the match by 10oz and take 10 league points.

Keith Carpenter started on the feeder but caught the majority of his fish on the avon float from peg six – his catch of 16lb took the second place prize and eight league points.

Fishing his first match in over a year, Mark Coombes was third fishing the stick float on peg one with 14lb 10oz.

Paul Russel continued his good river form taking the section by default with 12lb 9oz from peg five.

Dawlish angler Bernard Courtney banked 14 commons with a best of 24lbs 7oz – the heaviest of the week.

Richard Tierney, from Lapford, caught a common weighing 24lbs 4oz as one of 12 fish. On two other trips, Tierney banked 18 fish to 23lbs and seven fish to 23lbs.

Tiverton's Andy Shute landed eight commons to 20lbs together with a green tench and followed that up with five fish to 21lbs.

Newton Abbot's John Fenlon landed the heaviest mirror carp of the week of 18lbs.

Crediton's Mike Izzard banked four commons with a best weighing 21lbs.

Simon Rodman, from Okehampton, banked an 18lbs 13oz common and Scott Vern landed three fish. Exeter angler Scott Stringer hooked three commons to 17lbs 8oz.

Father and son Phil and Jacob Thomas from Exeter caught four fish to 14lbs while the Wallace family from Tiverton all had catches – Grant landed one fish of 18lbs, Stuart one of 14lbs and Kyle two fish to 14lbs.

Crediton angler Graham Fursman tempted five commons to 20lbs 5oz.


Kingfisher pool gave John Norman 11 carp to 12lb on legered sweetcorn and Fred Smythe had 10 carp to almost 13lb on legered pellet.
