A NEW police chief is expected to be appointed next month.

Interviews are taking place for the post of a new chief constable for Devon & Cornwall Police on Tuesday, January 15.

The new crime commissioner Tony Hogg is among those sitting on the selection panel.

There have been five applications for the post and the decision over who will take command of the force is expected to be made at the start of February.

Also sitting on the interviewing panel will be Kevin Lavery, CEO of Cornwall County Council, Tony Melville, a policing professional advisor, Geoff Pears, an independent panel member and Jan Stanhope, senior PCC advisor.

The interview process will consist of a candidate presentation and a competency-based interview. Mr Hogg's office said it would not be confirming the names of those candidates selected for interview.

The PCC's Police and Crime plan will be published at www.devonandcornwall-pcc.gov.uk this week.
