A GRADE I listed country mansion, in the South Hams region of Devon, Flete House is situated in 12 acres of landscaped grounds, including an Italianate garden, and is just five miles from the coast.

Housing 29 apartments in both the main house and converted stables, these properties were designed exclusively for self reliant, independent living with service fees inclusive of utilities. These properties are unique in every way.

Simon Scott-Nelson, director at Winkworth, who are marketing the property for sale, said: "It's always a pleasure to market different types of property. There are not that many converted country mansions in Devon and although the apartments sold out when last marketed years ago, there are now nine re-available.

"According to the other residents, it is the security and the ambience they buy into. One can opt in or out of the community element but one thing that grabs everyone is the grandieur, exclusivity and privacy of living in one of the region's finest residences."

Located near the small, picturesque village of Modbury in the South Hams they marry rural living with easy access to the A38 perfectly – putting the apartments within easy reach of Exeter and Plymouth.

There is also a range of activities on the doorstep, including golf on the two nearby courses, a tennis court near the terrace, table tennis, a croquet lawn, a snooker room, reading in the library or simply walking in the 12 acres of landscaped grounds.

Beyond the breathtaking garden is the Coastal Preservation Area, the South Devon Heritage Coast and a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The attractive historic towns of Ivybridge and Modbury are a few miles down the road.

Originally, Flete House was a Saxon estate, the manor being held by the Damarell family from the reign of William I until the time of Edward III. The earliest part of the house dates from the 16th century, and was substantially rebuilt around 1620 for Sir Charles Hele. The Hele family held the house in both the early and the late 18th century.

It was then heavily remodelled in the Gothic style in 1835 by JC Bulteel, which obliterated the early and late 18th century classical work and added castellations.

Due to its success, all of the 29 apartments at Flete were sold. Winkworth are now delighted to be able to offer the resales of several of the apartments in the main house, Midway Wing, and Stable Block.

Prices start from £135,000 for a one-bedroom apartment. Call 01392 422320 for further information.
