EXETER Racecourse is hosting South West Salute day on Sunday, with racing, military vehicles, and Exeter's Rifles Support team all at the event.

The day offers children aged 17 and under racing for free, and all serving military personnel and one guest are eligible for half price entry. For every full-priced ticket sold, £1 will be donated to the Salute.

The Salute is aiming to raise £2m for six military charities – Help For Heroes, Royal British Legion, Royal Air Force Association, Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity and SSAFA Forces Help.

They will benefit from 60 per cent of funds raised by South West Salute, with 40 per cent going to South West-based charities.

Six races are on the card which begins with a handicap hurdle at 1.05pm. A limited novices' handicap chase over three miles is followed by the SSAFA Commemorative Handicap Chase.

The Poppies Pursuit Handicap Chase is next followed by the Huge Novices' hurdle, with the Royal Navy & Marines Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle rounding things off at 3.35pm.

Tickets start from £13 if booked in advance at Exeter-raceourse.co.uk or by calling 08445 793005. Half priced tickets must be pre-booked quoting SWSDISC12.

A free raceday bus service leaves Exeter St David's train station at 11.25am and Exeter Bus & Coach Station at 11.40am and returns 30 minutes after the last race.
