Former Exeter Chiefs backrower James Phillips has signed for Championship side London Scottish.

The 26-year-old has agreed terms with the Athletic Ground club along with Rotherham Titans second-row forward Josh Thomas Brown.

Phillips joined the Chiefs from Bristol in 2010, but feels a change4 is what is needed at this stage of his career.

Phillips said: "I had a really good time at Exeter but now I'm looking to kick-on at London Scottish.

"It's the right move for me and I'm looking forward to working with (London Scottish head coach) James Buckland.

"We are building a strong squad and I think the top four is a realistic target."

Buckland says he is a fan of the physical attributes of Phillips, who stands at 6ft 4ins and tips the scales at around 19st.

“James is a big lad who takes some stopping and is well known in the Premiership,” he said.

“He wants to get back to that level and we’ll give him the platform to impress.”
