These pictures show a dramatic horse rescue in East Devon this morning.

Fire crews were called to Exeter Road, Newton Poppleford at 8am today after reports of a horse stuck in a river.

One fire appliance from Sidmouth and the animal rescue team from Urban Search and Rescue attended the above location along with officers after reports of a horse stuck in a river.

Crews requested the telehandler from USAR also attend.

Once the vet was in attendance the horse was sedated so crews could get to work with animal rescue lifting equipment and the telehandler to remove the horse from the stream.

The 30-year-old mare was checked over by the vet.
