Police are appealing for information after an elderly woman was robbed in Exeter.

The victim, who is currently at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital receiving treatment for injuries she sustained in the incident, was walking along Willeys Avenue in Alphington this morning (Wednesday) between 9.30am-10am.

Officers say the woman then had her black leather bag forcibly removed from her and suffered head and leg injuries in the process.

DC Catherine Thomas, of Exeter CID, said: "We are appealing for anyone with information to contact us. There was a young male seen to be on a bike in the area at the time and we would like him to come forward.

"This was a very nasty incident and we are keen to trace the offender as soon as possible."

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting reference number 137 of 16/01/13.
