Review: Sleeping Beauty at Barnfield Theatre

PANTO season is still in full swing at the Barnfield Theatre, with this year’s offering of Sleeping Beauty.

Produced by the Exeter Little Theatre company, the show provides a great evening’s entertainment for all the family.

It has everything you want from a panto, a great story, songs, dance, slapstick, a fabulous dame and a brilliant baddie.

Directed by Catherine Moore, this interpretation of a popular classic really is entertainment at its very best – and it is easy to forget that the company are not professional performers.

Everything from the sets, orchestra, costumes, script, direction and cast are first class. There is plenty of audience interaction – and even a dragon.

All the performances are great, but special mention must go to Lyn Burgoyne who plays Carabosse – The Bad Fairy. She is delightfully bad and had the audience booing and hissing every time she stepped on stage.

Nic Hake also makes a great debut with the ELT in the role of the dame, Nurse Germoline.

The show runs until January 5 at the Barnfield with performances at various times. Details 01392 270891 or visit eltc.org.uk. To join the company call 01392 201467 or email eng@eltc.org.uk
