As part of their on-going commitment to encouraging more people to become interested in the world of horseracing, Newton Abbot Racecourse will be offering 25 horseracing novices, or even dedicated enthusiasts, the rare chance to go behind the scenes and learn more about the sport at their evening fixture on Thursday 22 August.
As part of this one-off experience, the lucky racegoers will be taken on a tour around the course, walking the route that the horses take from the stables to the track, see the fences up-close and visit the front of the weighing room. They'll also be given a talk on how to read the racecard, how bets are placed and what to look for in a horse as it walks around the Parade Ring.
As an added treat, the group will also be taken into the Parade Ring to choose the best turned out horses in the evening's races and present the prizes to the winning connections. This experience will be given at no extra cost to those who purchase a Paddock Enclosure ticket, but those interested must pre-register their place as this will be limited to just 25 people.
Explaining the decision to introduce this one-off experience, Patrick Masterson, Managing Director at Newton Abbot Racecourse said: "Despite living near the racecourse, we find that so many local people are yet to make a visit to their local course as they feel they don't know enough about the sport to be able to enjoy it to the full.
"With this in mind, we've decided to trial this beginners' opportunity to encourage more people to learn about the fascinating sport and fully experience the thrill of watching the horses in full flight. It's the ideal introduction to the sport for beginners or even a one-off opportunity for avid horseracing fans that are looking for a behind-the-scenes experience."
This beginners' session is available for 25 people in total and those who would like to book a place on the tour must register their interest by Monday 19th August by calling 01626 353 235 as it will not be possible to register on the day. The tour and educational visit will be given at no extra cost to those who purchase a Paddock Enclosure ticket.
This one-hour experience will begin at 3:30pm, with those who register their place asked to meet at the Parade Ring.
The fixture on Thursday 22nd August will be the second of two back-to-back evening fixtures at Newton Abbot Racecourse on Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd August. Tickets for both fixtures are on sale now. For further information, visit www.newtonabbotracing.com or call 01626 353 235.
