TWO sisters are doing it for themselves after the loss of their beloved dad resulted in them striking out in business.
Hayley Perry and Stacey Turner's Crediton-based furniture supplies company, Universal Office Solutions, has generated growing returns since its launch in 2009.
Just weeks after the pair had helped their stepfather Andrew Pickard set up the business, he fell ill and died.
But for Hayley, who had been employed in his former £10m turnover office supplies business, which fell victim to the recession in 2008, there was no question about carrying on the venture he had "lived and breathed."
Launched with a focus on the education sector, by last year the company had grown into a £1.29m turnover business. It now employs 13 people and has plans to double in size over the next five years.
The firm has a national reach thanks to a depot in Scotland in addition to its Crediton hub.
"We don't want to grow 'stupid' big," said Hayley, whose husband Mike also works in the business. "We want to keep it an enjoyable size. The day you don't want to go to work anymore is the day you need to adjust and think long-term."
