A GUIDE group in West Devon is looking forward to a bright future in the New Year.

The borough council has transferred land at Brayhams Terrace to the Okehampton Guide Association at a nominal cost of just £1.

The move will provide a permanent site for their new building and compound.

Marie Endacott, of the association said members were now looking forward to making firm plans for the future.

The borough council is also working with Okehampton Town Council to make another piece of land available on the same site, next to the skate park, for young people to use for ball games.

In addition, it will also be transferring land at Simmons Way to Devon County Council to bridge the gap in the footpath between Exeter Road and the college.

Cllr Margaret Garton, chairman of West Devon Borough Council's strategies and resources committee, said: "We are delighted that we are able to help the community in this way. Public safety is always our first consideration, and we also appreciate how important it is for organisations to have the security of permanent facilities."

Both pieces of land are being transferred at a nominal cost of £1 as community assets.
