A date has been set for the trial of a lorry driver accused of causing the death of a motorist in a crash on the M5 near Cullompton.

Julian James Ketcher did not enter a plea when he appeared at Exeter Crown Court accused of causing the death of Alan Clements by dangerous driving on the Hele Straight near junction 28 on December 12 last year.

HGV driver Ketcher, aged 42, of Warwick, will be expected to enter a plea when he returns for a case management hearing in June.

Judge Phillip Wassall set a provisional trial date for November after Mr Adrian Chaplin, defending, said the case involved complicated technical issues.

Mr Clements, aged 47, from Hengoed, Oswestry, died as a result of an accident when his black Ford Focus car was one of five vehicles involved in a pile up on the Northbound carriageway.

The date of the crash was 5th December 2012 - it was my brother, so the date is etched on mind. It's quite distressing that the date was mis-reported!
