UPDATE: Body of man, 56, found in Exeter river debris

A man has been found dead floating among debris in a river in Exeter.

Police are investigating the discovery of a body of a 56-year-old man in the River Exe today.

The body was spotted by a member of the public at around 10.15am on Saturday at Exe Bridges.

It is thought to have been caught in wood and other debris that had piled up against a bridge support under the southern, Alphington Road bridge.

Police fire and ambulance crews were called in.

A police spokesman said: "A body of a local man aged 56 was discovered floating in the river.

"The next of kin have been informed - the death is not being treated as suspicious at this time."
