Update: Exeter manslaughter case - two people remanded in custody

Two men have been remanded in custody by magistrates in Exeter charged with manslaughter.

Craig Melhuish, aged 38, and Colin Smith, aged 34, both from Exeter, are charged with the manslaughter of Joseph Wake.

Mr Wake, 27, from Exeter, died following an alleged assault in Exeter on Saturday night. Police said he sustained head injuries and died after being taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

Melhuish and Smith were denied bail by Exeter magistrates and were remanded in custody to appear at Exeter Crown Court on June 2.

A 34-year-old woman from Exeter and a 41-year-old man from Exeter, who were also initially arrested in connection with the incident, have both been released on police bail until August 4.
