He was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where he needed extensive treatment.

The attack, which took place at 2.45am on Saturday, November 30 was carried out in full view of several members of the public.
DS Adrian Hawkins, of Exeter CID, said: "When he managed to escape from the group he was chased down and tripped by a lone male. During the course of the incident he suffered a break to his arm which required extensive hospital treatment.
"We are looking for witnesses to the incident and to identify the male pictured.
“This incident was violent from the outset and not something seen on a regular basis in Exeter. Although there is no cause for members of the public to fear becoming a victim of this type of assault Police are keen to identify the male in the green jacket as soon as possible”.
CCTV footage captures the group close to the Las Iguanas, formerly the Pitcher and Piano on Queen Street, where they are already facing up to the defendant before he is punched and knocked to the floor.
“He is then surrounded and it is clear from the footage that there are more than one person involved in the attack,” added DS Hawkins.
“But we need to speak to those stood around, whether they were part of the group involved or witnesses. It looks like some tried to break it off towards the end.
“Eventually the victim is able to get off the floor but as he is running away he has his legs kicked out from under him. He falls and breaks his arm.
“That’s then really the end of it. The whole incident is captured on CCTV but we now need the public’s help in identifying those responsible.
“There doesn’t appear to be any real indication of what sparked it off. But we obviously want to get hold of those responsible as soon as we can.
