Vinnicombe upset as weather hits revival

MANAGER Chris Vinnicombe was left frustrated after the weather wrecked his hopes of continuing the Witheridge revival.

Withy have strung together five straight victories as they climb up the South West Peninsula League Premier Division table.

It was a run they were looking to extend on Saturday as they faced bottom-of-the-table Penzance at Edge Down Park.

But their game was rained off and they will now have to wait until December 8 before they are back in action.

Vinnicombe said: "With the run we are on at the moment, we would have liked to have kept things going. It was a good chance to extend our winning sequence.

"We would have preferred to have had a game because there is no game this weekend either.

"It will be a test for the players the next time they play. Can they pick up from there they left off or is the weather going to interrupt us and we are going to have to build it up again? We will have to wait and see."

Meanwhile Cullompton Rangers' match at home to Torpoint Athletic was also postponed because of the wet weather.

It was a match Taylor had targeted for three points, bearing in mind that Cully had already beaten Torpoint once this season.

However, Cully face what looks like a much easier task this Saturday when they travel to Penlee Park to take on Penzance.

The Magpies have yet to record a win this season and currently find themselves eight-points adrift at the foot of the table.

They have also conceded a massive 94 goals in 20 games – at least 50 per cent more than any other team in the division.
