AS part of the annual Budleigh Literary Festival – Words by the Sea, there will be a workshop on memoir writing.

This year's event runs from Friday, September 21, until Sunday 23.

A series of workshops and performances will serve as a preview to the festival.

Sponsored by the Otter Valley Association, Local Voices will start on Wednesday, September 19, with a Walk with Words by Michael Downes at the Fairlynch Museum from 10am.

"So many people feel that their lives would make an interesting book," said author Sophie King who will lead the session. "My workshop will provide a golden opportunity to start that journey whether you are an experienced writer or have written nothing since schooldays."

The workshop is on Thursday, September 20, from 10am until 12.30pm at the Church on the Green. Tickets are £5 available from Wendy Spicer by calling, 01395 232486 or 07989 369887.

Later in the day at the same venue, between 2pm and 5pm, a medley of writers will present excerpts of their works. And between 7pm and 9.30pm at the Temple Church Five Minutes of Fame, an open mic night for writers, will take place.
