THOUSANDS of pounds is up for grabs by local community groups in a new competition being launched today in the Echo.

The first prize is a pot of £2,000, with many other prizes of at least £450.

But to be in with a chance of winning you have to get your entries sent in.

There is a total cash pot of £25,000 which is being donated by Western Power Distribution to help people make a difference through their community groups. There will be 43 separate awards made across Exeter, Torquay and Mid Devon.

Every community group entering the competition should give exact details of what they want the money for.

A panel will judge all the entries and then the final 43 will be featured, with readers being asked to vote for the one they think is the most deserving. But if your group makes it through to the final 43 then you will definitely be in the money. We want nominations which demonstrate how community groups come together for the benefit of all.

It could be a brass band playing at community events, a sports club providing after school activities or maybe a volunteer conservation group keeping footpaths clear for everyone to enjoy all year round – the list is endless, and we want to hear from them.
