Exeter University's Students' Guild is the first in the country to be awarded accreditation for how it manages its office admin, catering and retailing.
Although a handful of universities have been given the accreditation, the guild is the first student union to achieve the British Standard.
Not only does the accreditation proe that the  guild has sound management programmes and operational procedures in place, it also means it will be able to meet targets in the reduction of  environmental impacts.
The guild was praised for its enthusiasm in achieving good environmental practice.
Norrie Blackeby, Head of Facilities of Central Services, said: "I am delighted with this achievement. This accreditation confirms the guild's commitment and dedication towards environmental issues and management."
James Hutchinson, Chief Executive, said: "This follows several years of hard work by staff, students and volunteers committed to improving the students' guild's environmental management practices.
"We now look forward to building on this success, recognising that we can always do more to ensure we reduce our impact on the environment."
