Twelve people rescued from Tiverton property after fire spreads

Twelve people have been rescued by fire crews in Tiverton after a blaze in the roof of a three storey building spread to adjacent properties.

The Fire Service received several calls for a building fire in St Peter Street, Tiverton at 17:30 today. Fire Appliances from Tiverton and Danes Castle attended along with the Aerial Ladder Platform from Danes Castle.

On arrival, crews requested additional appliances to be sent due to smoke issuing from the roof space of two properties.

A further appliance from Bampton was mobilised along with the Incident Command Unit from Honiton. Crews got to work to extinguish the fire using four Breathing Apparatus, two Hose Reel Jets, one Triple Extension Ladder.

The blaze was out by 8pm, extinguished using eight Breathing Apparatus, three Hose Reel Jets and two Thermal Imaging Cameras.

Twelve occupants were evacuated from the building and the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
