PLAYING only a few shows ahead of the release of his first solo album is Hayseed Dixie frontman John Wheeler.

Stepping out on his own has given the singer an opportunity to venture into lyrical and musical territory quite removed from the work of his successful rockgrass band.

Earlier this month John released his first single Deeper in Debt which he will be performing, along with other hits from forthcoming solo debut, Un-American Gothic, at Exeter Phoenix on Thursday, November 22.

The album isn't due for release until February so the tour is a chance for fans to get a sneak preview of John's new material on his intimate, 10-date solo tour.

Best known for the past decade as the creator and frontman of Hayseed Dixie, John's solo material reveals extra personality, intelligence, insight and, of course, all the charm and humour which flung Hayseed into such credible popularity.

Tickets for the gig cost £12.50. Call 01392 667080 or visit www.exeterphoenix.org.uk.
