SAM Curtis was the man of the match as Wanderers Raptors beat Taunton 3-2 in Division One of the Exeter & District Volleyball League.

However, they followed up that success with heavy defeats against Exeter University's first team and Kirton.

Playing away against Taunton, Exeter School-based Raptors took the first three sets 25-23, 25-17 and 25-11 to claim the win, although the hosts won the fourth and fifth sets.

The University students then won 5-0 against the Raptors, with the Raptors' Lukas Fenel and Kiryl Trembovolski, from the University, both impressing. Kirton recorded a 4-1 win against the Raptors, despite Uli Hewald having an excellent game.

Elsewhere in Division One, Kings School went down 5-0 against Plymouth Marjon Pocket Rockets, despite being in contention in each set.

In Division Two, Exeter University's thirds beat the fourth team 5-0 after making a flying start. The players of the match were Jack Gavin for the fourths and Nikita Polishchuk for the thirds.

Exeter Prison outfit The Birdmen beat Torexe Vulcans 3-2 after winning the opening three sets.

However, the Riverside Leisure Centre-based side gradually got used to their new line-up to claim the final two sets. Anna Grabowska was Torexe's star player.

Torexe Jaguars beat Wanderers Cohorts 4-1 in a match that was very close. After taking the first set 25-17, the Jaguars found the Cohorts a much tougher proposition and the Exeter School-based side won the second set 25-23.

Player-of-the-match honours went to Cecile Carter for the Cohorts and Peryanaden Coolen for the Jaguars.

Cohorts were also beaten 4-1 at Plymouth Marjon Jesters. After going down 25-16 in the opening set, the Exeter-based team fought back to level the match with a 25-15 win in the second set.

However, the home side won the final three sets comfortably. Carter was again the player of the match for Wanderers Cohorts.
