Exeter bus and coach station, off Paris Street, is closing soon ahead of its demolition.

The aging site, opened in 1964, shuts on Sunday, March 26 to make way for St Sidwell's Point leisure centre, a new bus station and an extension of Princesshay.

The replacement bus station, a city council project, will include a covered waiting and boarding areas and high quality facilities.

While the new bus station is being built, temporary measures will be in place, primarily along Sidwell Street.

The measures were given the thumbs up by councillors on the Leisure Complex and Bus Station Programme Board in July 2016.

An option to use Triangle Car Park was binned, after objections from some local residents and businesses.

New bus stands and stops with weather protection and information for passengers, for services which currently use the bus station.

Nine stands will be used in Sidwell Street. Five will be in Paris Street and one in Cheeke Street.

Three stands for coaches will also be based in Sidwell Street.

Stagecoach will reveal which services will use which temporary stands soon.

Layover bays will be located in Red Lion Lane, Verney Street, Bampfylde Street, Paris Street, Summerland Street and Sidwell Street, at varying times during the new build construction phase.

A diversion will allow traffic to access two of the Princesshay car parks via Southernhay East.

The city council are putting together signs that aim to minimise disruption.

Highways alteration works in Sidwell Street and Paris Street got underway at the start of January.

The works are due to start in Southernhay in January/February.
